Summary

Corinne and Richard Zarzavatdjian are meeting readers with “La cuisine des Arméniens” (Armenian cooking), published on 8 October by Solar (35 euros). The book brings together 70 recipes and the stories of diaspora families settled in more than 25 countries, with a foreword by historian Pascal Ory of the Académie française. The tour opens on 4 November in Paris at the Salon des femmes de lettres at the Cercle des Armées. It continues at Fnac Boulogne on 7 November, Cultura Issy-les-Moulineaux on the 8th, Librairie de l’Atelier (Paris 9th) on the 11th, then the Levallois history book fair on the 14th and 15th. On 21 November the authors will be in Décines, Lyon and Aubagne, on the 22nd at Cultura La Valentine in Marseille, and on the 28th at the 16th arrondissement town hall. The final stop is Alfortville, at the Armen Livres fair, on 28 and 29 November.

Analysis

The book is part of a real trend: food has become one of the liveliest ways into Armenian history, especially for younger diaspora generations. By telling recipes through families and their host countries, the authors show how exile shaped the Armenian table. Throughout November, the tour takes in the community’s main cities, from the Paris region to Lyon and Marseille.

Possible consequences

Public talks and signings from 4 to 29 November in the Paris region, around Lyon and in the Bouches-du-Rhône.
