A church from the 1970s

The foundation stone of the Armenian church of Saint Mary Mother of God, at 6 avenue Bourgain, was laid on 31 March 1973. Designed by the architects Henri Khandjian and Jean Hanemian, it was consecrated on 15 June 1975 by Catholicos Vazgen I. Part of the building houses a cultural centre.

In the same year, 1975, a street in the town was named rue d’Erevan (Yerevan Street). In 2004, a square was named place Etchmiadzine.

Issy-les-Moulineaux has been twinned since 5 December 1989 with Etchmiadzin (Vagharshapat), the seat of the Armenian Apostolic Church.
